What should a consulting deliverable include?
Short answer: A consulting deliverable has five sections a client will actually check: the situation as the client states it, the evidence with its method, the options with their trade-offs, the recommendation with its conditions, and the next steps with owners. A deck that skips the options section reads as an opinion; one that skips the conditions reads as a sales pitch.
Why does the options section matter more than the recommendation?
Because a recommendation without options is unfalsifiable. A client cannot disagree with "do this" if the alternatives were never on the page; they can only accept it or distrust it. Listing three real options with their trade-offs makes the recommendation arguable — and an arguable recommendation is what gets adopted.
Each option should carry what it costs, what it requires, and what would have to be true for it to be the right choice. Options that are obviously worse than the recommendation are not options; they are decoration, and clients notice.
What does the evidence section have to disclose?
The method, in one page: what was measured, over what period, from which sources, and what was excluded. Then the findings, each tied to the method that produced it.
The most common failure is findings presented as facts without the method — the client cannot check them, so they discount all of them, including the correct ones.
What makes the next-steps section credible?
Owners and dates. "Implement the recommendation" is not a next step; "Finance owns the pricing change, live by Q2" is. Every next step should name who does it, when it lands, and how it will be measured.
Also state what you will not do. A deliverable that ends with an unlimited scope of follow-on work reads as an opening to a sales conversation rather than a conclusion.

Questions this page gets asked.
How long should a consulting deliverable be?
The argument runs 12–20 pages; the appendix carries the method detail and the raw findings. Length comes from the number of options and findings, not from a page target.
Should the recommendation come first or last?
First, as a one-page executive summary, and last, with its conditions. The client reads the summary before the meeting and the conditions during it.
Can a template deliverable be sold as consulting work?
The template is the structure; the work is the content and the judgement behind it. A pack gives you the page types and the fill gates — the analysis, the options and the recommendation are yours.
